With a 10 hour layover in Amsterdam, interesting, and a short respite in Tsavo National Park, this will be needed, we should be on the water mid-week. The marlin are biting and the GT's await. The BIG Game Legends Interview Series is being re-edited for use with the Sport Fishing Safari production. This is a long process of looking through hours of footage to grab the very best clips and sound bites. I have just, in the past couple of days, finished work on the Allen Merritt and Alfred Glassell interviews. Allen Merritt was a real pleasure to listen to, with his endless stories about the hey days of growing up in S. Florida. Today, I am on the James Roberts interview that was filmed in Madeira a few years ago.

With a lot of viewing, reviewing and scribbling notes ahead, I decided to pop some corn and grab a few cans of coke (regular coke botted in Central America with real sugar, not the fake crap) and settle in for a long stretch. I hope to have the first of this series out by the first of the year. More updates will be forth coming.

The company will soon release, as part of the Safari brand, a collection of conversations with several of big game fishing's most respected and reverred captains, anglers and crew. This project is called "BIG Game Legends".

BIG Game Legendsis a collection of the most incredible interviews ever shot with someof big game fishing’sgreatest explorers and their first hand tales of heading into theblue. These sportsmen experienced the most superb big game fishingthe world will ever see. It is through their spirit of adventure thatan industry was born.

We started this project several years ago, but only now felt the timing was right to roll it out. Several of the most well known participants have passed away since filming. The beautiful part is that the flame never died in any of them. Those that are still with us carry the mantle. I wish to thank each and every one who helped in this endeavor.

I want to extend a special thanks to the Kaymak Music group for their support of the film project and allowing us to feature their music in the films. I have known the two brothers behind the bands name for many years. Their presence in the Seattle music scene is a testament to their hard work.

Producing original works requires tremendous dedication and time, so I really appreciate their commitment to the films. Sport Fishing Safari is a demanding endeavor and putting together a library of great music is a key component to complimenting each film. Sport Fishing Safari Travels to the Land of Big Bows

The Kenai River in Alaska is home to some of the biggest rainbow trout in the world and the bow shown here would just start to be considered big. Unless the fish is over 30 inches, it is just a nice bow. On 6-8 pound outfits, fish like this can provide real sporting fun.

This photo was taken as part of our film footage and not as a photo. Shooting in progressive mode offers the ability to capture individual frames that look just as good as digital photos.

Sport Fishing Safari with Captain William Toney

We pounded the inshore water system of the north Gulf coast of Florida this past weekend with very nice, albeit hard won, results. The tides on the full moon we super productive, with waters inbetween working your patients. But, we covered a lot of ground to get what we needed. Wow! Thanks to Homosassa Inshore Fishing for sharing this endless fishery and there drive to get on fish. Big trout, fat reds, chunky seabass and gags were all boated and released. It's too bad a couple of huge snook broke off. Damn, were they nice launching themselves out of the water. You know, when you are rigged with light leaders, the snook is going to get you most times.

I just keep thinking how much material is in the editing studio. We are getting close to delivering some material to our marketing partner. Getting the footage is time consuming, so we just have to keep our patients. If I could do it all quickly I would, but it's fishing and you have to put your time in. Thanks for following us. As I sit in the airport in Seattle and reflect on the past weeks amazing adventure through one of the worlds really spectacular fisheries, my thoughts bounce from one incredible image to the next and the next. Exhausted and a little jaded after all the wonderful hospitality and shared fishing knowledge, I can only dream about my return to fish for king salmon from the banks of the Kenai River this summer. There is some really unique niche fishing taking place on the Kenai Peninsula.

Long a bastion of sport fishing world records, this river flows through arguably some of the most majestic vistas our creator blessed us with. The river and lake system that makes up the Kenai River was, for the most part, frozen closed to damn near all fishing related activities. But, the enormous discharge keeps a small portion, 4 miles to be exact, open to fishing and that is the area we worked up and down. The many rainbow trout we encountered were damn sure not short of any fighting spunk.

I would like to offer my thanks and gratitude to all the guys and gals that made this trip possible. A big hug and thank you go out the Reubin and Mindy Payne of Alaskan Widespread Fishing for playing host and guiding us on this spectacular journey. I would also like to thank Alaska Fish and Game for their participation. Nature Coast

We are in Homosassa, Florida filming the first of a two part piece for Sport Fishing Safari. This film will focus on two distinctly different seasons for this dynamic fishery. The plan is to shoot redfish, snook, trout and ladyfish now and then return in May/June to shoot tarpon.

While the Homosassa Springs area is not one the primary 13 destinations for "Sport Fishing Safari", it will serve as an interesting accompaniment to the series. Once we get into the studio and start reviewing the footage, I will release some teaser footage.

Following many months of meetings, phone calls and steadfast commitment, the Ministry of Tourism in the Dominican Republic has authorized Full Throttle Media to film Sport Fishing Safari - DR in multiple locations. I will be the first person to tell you that no production of value happens in a vacuum or without the help of a very talented team. One of the first objectives for this project was assembling the best and brightest media partners, industry experts, globe trotting anglers, cine pros, editors, music directors, captains, anglers, guides, logisticians, humorists, tackle consultants, locations experts, etc, etc. I was time to think outside the box. Species, Destination and Experts

Most anglers will have a preset notion of what the most sought after game fish from inshore and offshore waters should be based on their geographic location in the world. To insure broad audience appeal of "Sport Fishing Safari", I had to think globally and not locally. With that as my starting point, I had to reach out to my fishing friends around the world and take a quick survey of their favorite game fish for both types of fishing. Once the list of fish was formulated, the question then became one could arguably be considered the most prolific destination in the world in which to go after our target species? And finally, if you were going to fish these fantastical locales, who would be the go to captains, guides or anglers? Pretty simple, huh? Well, maybe not. All of this makes for a logistical and very costly end game. Not to worry, I am always up for a good challenge and so are the wonderful folks that I am working with on this production. More to come later.

The Naming of a Project

Following a few films and several conversations with my good friend Mike Staley, from the Bonnier Marine Group, he and I concluded there was an opening for a grand film project. With thinking cap now on and the creative juices coursing through my veins, I came up with the idea of shooting a series of films in several of the premier destinations. This project was called, "Legends of the Triad". Soon I found myself working a funding deal with the Ministry of Tourism in Mexico. Why you might ask would one country's Ministry of Tourism want to fund films in other destinations? They wanted to capitalize on the audience and position Mexico as the one stop destination for all your fishing dreams. Well, after a lot of time and way too much effort was invested, the deal fell through, go figure, huh!

Not to be discouraged, I birthed another idea. I would put together a knowledgeable and worldly production team and make this concept happen. The first thing I had to do was change the projects name. The original name was based on a simple idea. What are the most sought after game fish from inshore and offshore waters. Where is the best place in the world to target those species and who would be the absolute best in-country captains/guide to go with. So, it was about fish, places, people. Thus, the triad. Now, while my basic idea was the same, the film series was more of an adventure. With that in mind, I came up with "Sport Fishing Safari" and our current production was born.

An Idea Is Born

Several years ago, I found myself watching some sport fishing television programs and thinking there has to be a better format. This was before the idea of fishing related film productions was in vogue. The half hour television format left so much to be desired. How much could you really squeeze into twenty two minutes, accounting for commercials. A longer less constricted format had to be better. The surfing and skating community was already well onto this with several epic cult productions, like Endless Summer, Step Into Liquid, Riding Giants, Dog Town and Z Boys and on and on. Why had the sport fishing community not followed suit? So, I picked up a camera, began shooting film in the Bahamas and thus my on water safari began.
